This probably won't catch on for a while, but i'll make it anyway.
This is a thread for the weird and wonderful things that you've done, you're doing, or thinking about doing with Linux.
Still being a semi-noob, i've only done the basic stuff, but it's still stuff that i reckon is pretty neat.
Not too long ago, i installed Xebian on my Xbox, which is now a fully-fledged media box.
More currently, and more to the point; i've finally managed to get Damn Small Linux booting off my 64mb pen drive, turns out that the file it was trying to boot was called knoppix, not KNOPPIX. I've put some network monitoring, and disk recovery tools on there, i'll bet i'll never use it, but it's still kind of cool to have a fail-safe operating system on your keyring.
And finally, my futile attempts at getting a Gentoo install on my main PC show no bounds. I'm on attempt #4, and this time it won't compile the kernel. There's a different problem every time; at least i fail quickly, i've got it to a point where i can take the computer to work, and still have it ready to take home at the end of the day, successful or not.
I think i'll give it a rest for a while if it doesn't work today.
Anyway, if someone's doing something nifty with Linux, or trying out something new, let us know.

I can't really say I've done anything too nifty except maybe make my own superkaramba theme. The thing that keeps me using Linux is all the free stuff and superior security.
I suppose installing 64 bit versions of Linux is nifty. First thing I want to try is SuSe 9.2 64-bit. There seems to be a lot more packages for 64-bit now.
I also want to try Gentoo 64-bit, but I know how finicky Gentoo can be so i'm going to play with it on a spare 40 Gig hard drive since the Live CD doesn't support the nv_sata controller. Yeah I could modprobe it and all that stuff, but I haven't been in an experimental mood lately.
I saw an article on how to make your own media center pc in Linux. Looked fairly easy from the article at Anandtech. Oddly enough, the Linux support for TV cards is better than Windows. lol

Yeah, i had one a while ago, but i zapped it. Worked almost instantly in Knoppix, took me hours to get it going in XP.
"This driver is not digitally signed..."
*Shudder*
EDIT: Woooo! I got my Gentoo installation working! Or at least so far it is, i've rebooted without the CD, and am currently emerging Gnome.
I'm so stoked!
Well, that proves it, the Gentoo handbook is good enough that anyone can install Gentoo.
Even if it does take them 4 tries...

Portage is just so damn cool. I am surprised none of the other distros don't have it included. Even as a supplement to the rpm or apt get moethod.

I've been running XP for several months now, but before I had a computer that could run XP, I ran linux either exclusively or as the default while dual booting Win3.1/95/98. I'd say the most customized thing I've done was use it to make a digital juke box.
One of my neighbors threw out an old PII. I grabbed it from the curb, took it apart, blew out all the dust, reseated the video card (which is evidently the problem he had), put it back together, installed Red Hat, stuck in a 20 gig drive full of MP3's, built a retractable keyboard tray into my entertainment center, put a small rack-sized keyboard in it, hooked up a 15" flat-pannel monitor I have, stuck that on top of the entertainment center, stuck the box behind it, and ran audio out into my eq/booster to clean up the sound some, made a custom desktop and start script, and installed a working version of xmms with some cool graphics, so all you see in the EC is the monitor (which is grey, which matches my grey and black sterio & tv) and just leave it playing random.
Sounds good, looks cool, and didn't cost a dime.
Edit: Here's pictures.

Sweet setup. Gives me ideas for my entertainment center.

Crazy, i was seriously thinking about making a media centre like that, i got a USB remote and everything. But then i got my Xbox running Linux and i never bothered taking it any further.
Still; given the chance, and another $500AU for a decent LCD, i'd give it another go. I've got a nice Socket A Gigabyte motherboard that's just screaming out to be made useful again.
Me and my boss found out that there was a laptop no-one was using at work. Nothing special, Celeron 366, 128mb RAM, still plenty to run Ubuntu though. Needless to say, we're filling the poor 3.4gb Hard drive up with craploads of networking tools.
Affectionatly known as "Tee-Flar" (TPHLR -- The Potato Handle Lab Rat). It is an expendable network manager and application tester.
