device drivers? windows98

pc is hp pavilion just reformatted hard drive and loaded windows98. how can i get or use my pc to detect hardware to load proper drivers. Drivers that come with windows 98 doesnt work. I have no sound, modem isnt detected. pc message no modem found.

my display setting only let me choose 800X600 how do i change it my windows 98 software only loads this driver

don't you have the drivers for your peripherals? if you don't, then gather up your peripherals and start listing model numbers. then go visit driverguide.com. they have the most drivers for any peripheral model for free.
