Hi Everyone
My PCChips M800 mainboard manual lists the AGP slot as 2.0 compliant but I've just ran a 3DMark check on the PC which states the AGP as 'revision 1.0 and 1x/2x rate'.
I was about to upgrade my graphics card from AGP 2.0 compliant 32Mb GeForce2 MX400 to a 128Mb 8x/4x AGP ATI Radeon 9250 (to run at 4x speed) but am now confused!!
The manual I got with the board is for an M800LMR board, the 3DMark check stated M800 board version V10, I'm wondering if the two are the same/different?
Can anyone help?
Thanks, Steven.

run sisoftsandra to see if it agrees. you might have a faulty board, faulty card, or moon spots.
all i can say, which isnt very helpful, is that i had the same issue with my gf2. board was running at pci speed, no matter what i did. installed a 9600 and told it to run at 4x, and it does. the card is an upgrade, even if it continues to run at 2x. so i wouldnt be too concerned.

thanks for the help. Installed Sandra which confirmed AGP version 1.00 (same as AGP compliance??), speed 1 x 66MHz, max rate 2x. Gf2 card version 2.00, transfer rates 1x 2x 4x.
So looks like no point upgrading to 8x card, better upgrading the PC!
However, Sandra confirmed 3DMark that only 1x is enabled on the card so maybe some room for improvement yet! Will look at drivers. BUT, could updating an old BIOS improve this??

certainly. a lot of bios updates take care of that. no guarantees that theres one out for your board, of course.

Sometimes drivers default to a lower AGP speed to insure compatibility. The latest updates are your best bet to get beyond it.
There are also software utilities which let you set it higher such as powerstrip.

Do you think it is safe to assume that if I have been running a GeForce2 AGP 2.0 compliant 1x 2x 4x card that my motherboard therefore MUST be 2.0 compliant or could a 4yr old GeForce card be backwards compatible itself to a 1.0 AGP board? (I had thought 2.0 and 1.0 slots were physically different?!)
Thanks for the help so far, I'm still stuck on 1.0 board AGP in Sandra but I've updated drivers and have now upped the resolution on Pro Evo 4 (the reason for a new card!!) and it's running smoother than ever!

Might want to check your bios settings and see if you have the agp settings right so you're running at a higher rate.

For reference..
Tried Sapphire ATI Radeon 9200SE in 3.3v PCChips AGP slot and it works! Difference incredible compared to old 32Mb Gf2 card!! Pro Evo 4 running really well.
Thanks for the support.
