gamecube reading problems

when i start my gamecube up, with disc properly placed inside, the gamecube says there is NO DISC, repeatedly i turn my console on and off to try to fix the problems, sometimes the game starts, then about 10 minutes into playing it says an error has ocurred, it seems my gamecube has a problem with reading the discs sometimes, please help me if you can.
