INF file's

Hi guys.

I know little about inf files. Except that they prefrom various operations when installing a program. But is thier a way to wirte it where it automatic puts in the serial number of a program as it is installing. And bascially makes the installiaton a breeze.

Reason i am asking? Cause at school in comp class we do about 10 windows installs a day on rebiult comps. It get tiresum reading all the numbers. Also triyng to find the right one when some one replaces the case of the cd. SO I was planing on burning all cab files for all operationin systems. On one cd to make it eaisrer, Do not have to find 95 then te 98 cds or whatever where installing. But I want a way where it makes it automated....cause usally it does not get done in one hour of time.....or the amount of class time we have. That way it'll be done with out us havieng to input serials...and clicking ok a 100 times.

Thanx guys

I don't believe there's such a thing as a *.inf file that will automatically enter the serials. Just get real good with the numeric keypad on the right and typing with one hand on the letters. I can enter serials in <4 seconds, even when they're for windows.

Thats ok i figured out how to do lol. Thier is a way

Create a Autorun.inf file. And tell it to creat a regular string entry to the registry under local machine\software\microsft\windows\current version which is where your product key is installed. Name the reg Product Key. and for the value use the Key. Not to shabby

I'd hate to burst your bubble... but that's not the cdkey. It's a generated product ID.

Well for me it shows the cd key (all sets #####-#####-#####-#####-#####) I use for my windows version hmmmmmmm... I know thier must me a way to do this, Cause when you re-install windows from dos (any version I used). When the screen to enter the cd key comes up it shows the one that is previously installed. This is only if your installing the same version over itself from dos tho. Since we do freash installs after formatting most of the time. Thier must be a way to find out what file that holds that info (serial key) and some how write a .bat file or .inf to place a simlar file on the comp beofre the setup is run, cantaining the serial number. Maybe its just me but I belive thier is a way. That I tihnk would require no hacking. As in hacking I mean no hex edting.

Any sugesstions???? I know we could just enter them. but I am dealing with idoits that lose stuff al the time and most of the time enter it wrong 5 times then complain that it does not work. And they spend the rest of the hour entering all the other codes they can find in the room lol.

Some Windows CD-ROMs have a "win9x" directory. For example, win98se licensing version has a "win98" directory, where all of the install files for windows 98 are kept.

Create a new file in this directory called "msbatch.inf". This should be a plain text file.
In the file type the following text:

[Setup]
ProductKey="XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX"

In place of the X's type the Product Key of the disk.
If this doesn't work, then I'll have to supply you with the rest of what the file is supposed to have in it. I can't do it here without the administrator's permission as it is copyrighted material.
Try what I said first, then come back again if it doesn't work.
