gamecube will not read disc

I need help immediately. My son knocked my niece's game cube off the table, and now it starts up, and the little cube comes up it says start she pushes the button and it says please insert disc, it will not read that the disc is in it. help, I had a dvd to do this and i never got it fixed but this is a lot more money i do not have to spend to fix it for her. I am hoping it is something we can fix, she has unplugged it and restarted it and it is still doing the same thing.
