need a tv/video card...

Ok so i went out and bought one of those Tempurpedic beds, the "memory foam" swedish sleep systems. IT ROCKS!!!! i even opted to buy the one with the adjustable frame, like a Craftmatic. Heres the problem... Now that i got this kick-ass bed, i never want to get out of it... Couch/TV in the living room? Do i really need it now?! So i want to get one of the video cards that have tv tuner cards built in, like an All in wonder. I currently have a ATI 9800 pro and a 19" CRT monitor, and i like to watch dvds in bed, but i have to go to the living room to watch the news. I would like to kill 2 birds with one stone here. Upgrade my video plus add tv capabilities to my puter. the problem is, theres no sense in buying a 9800 pro all in wonder when i already have a 9800 pro just for the tv. all i can find is pci-e all in wonders like the x600 or x800's and i dont have pci-e.
by the way, the reason for adding tv to my computer is i dont have anywhere to put another tv in the room (12x14 room with lotsa junk!) and i figured i already have a 19 monitor right there.
are there a lot of conflicts with those add-in tv cards? ive seen on lots of forums that they often conflict with video cards. so id like to avoid that route. thanks for lookin!

I have a Leadtek Winfast Pro 2000 and that thing has worked flawlessly with about 4 different video cards. It even works better in Linux.
Anyway, Leadtek makes some awsome TV cards and they are well priced. Some have FM tuners as well. They also have one where you can give your PC tivo-like functionality.
Anyway, it's probably better to get a stand alone tv card. IF you ever upgrade your graphics card again, you won't be out a tv tuner.

never thought about that... thats a good reason to buy a standalone. thanks for the tip

By the way, who says owning a gun is statiscally safer than going to the doctor ?
It does make sense ... you can educate yourself about how to use a gun safely, but no one can know everything about the human body ...

is there a certain type of chipset i should be looking for in a tv card? i see some have Phillips chips and others have other numbers ive never heard before. Is there some kind of industry standard? ion, is there any kind of image degradation when running your tv card full screen? I see the ads for some of these cards and they say stuff to the effect of "even looks good in fullscreen mode!!!" that leads me to believe that they look crappy in fullscreen. is this so? hows your Leadtek do?

Almost all of them use the same chipset. I would say your best bet is to read newegg user comments. A lot of people seem to really like the KWORLD brand of tv cards. Hauppage is probably the most well known, but I think their image quality is craptastic. My 50$ Leadtek card has a way better image quality and FM radio to boot.

ok here is one more question. i have a cable modem, so can i somehow simply split the cable line before the modem? or is there a way to use the same line that goes to the ccable moden into the tv card? i already have the line split to go to 2 tv's and then the modem. the cable installer told me not to split it too much or the signal will degrade and slow my internet connection down. is this a problem?

can you guys check this out and tell me what you think.

this one says you can watch the tv on your monitor without turning on the computer, which is EXACTLY what im hoping to do! my misses is pretty PC-illiterate and hates to even look at my computer, let alone turn it on and start some TV program. Sounds like its fairly easy to use, and the reviews look good. Tell me what u think.

Never tried the USB model myself. I wondering how it works with the PC turned off if it uses a usb port. That may be just for software features I suppose.
