ok this thread will get filled in later, theres alot info in the bottom log(if youd be kind enough to read that and help too) but in jest a friend had a few older comps and we combined some shit to make 1 better, the 2nd hdd we added wouldnt show up and i dont know why, the following log is me asking red WhyTF it wouldnt work, and me confuseing her
ill post more later but right now its 6am
Dark Prince: hey tell me why i cant find the drivers for a western digital hdd model number wd75da-00awa1
Dark Prince: its being jewish and wont find the drivers automaticly
Dark Prince: i ment why i cant find um online
redwench: if wd doesnt have them, then there arent any
Dark Prince: uhhh wd made the drive...
redwench: correct
Dark Prince: wd doesnt have the drivers and neither does driverguide.com
redwench: then its safe to say that you dont need any
Dark Prince: then why wouldnt it load? it says found new hardware but couldnt find the drivers... it says under device manager>hard drives> that theres a 2nd ide controller loaded and running correctly
redwench: an ide controller is not a hard drive
Dark Prince: no but it says it under hard drives
redwench: you need drivers for the controller, not the drive
Dark Prince: it doesnt list the 1st hdd under there either, it just says that the primary ide(1st) and the secondary ide(2nd)
Dark Prince: whatcha mean?
redwench: if the problem is with an ide controller, you need a driver for the ide controller
Dark Prince: huh, explain + i never said it was the ide controller
redwench: there is nothing to explain. get the drivers for whatever it doesnt like.
Dark Prince: but it doesnt like the hdd
Dark Prince: it says that the ide controll is enabled and working properly
redwench: what doesnt it like about the hard drive?
Dark Prince: it actknowledges the 2nd hdd is there BUT wont load it
Dark Prince: i dunno
redwench: what do you mean wont load it?
Dark Prince: it keeps saying new device found but it would "find" the drivers or "find" whatever the **** it needs
redwench: did you forget to partition and format a new drive?
Dark Prince: it was allrdy formatted
Dark Prince: and partitioned
Dark Prince: its hooked up correct, the jumpers are set correct, everything is correct-i thought
redwench: what kind of drive is it?
Dark Prince: a western digital hdd 7.5gig model number wd75da-00awa1
redwench: omg, its like 10 years old
redwench: no wonder there arent drivers
Dark Prince: uhh yeah
Dark Prince: it was takken from an old computer to go into a slightly newer old computer
Dark Prince: ok could this be the problem? the master drive (a maxor) had two jumpers(where the slave/master is) and it didnt have a pic where the jumpers go, but it said master/single on(and since noone has touched the jumpers that means where they were was the master right?)

ok well whats the possible problems one would have when one installed a 2nd hdd and it didnt work?
list all if you want
fyi it says found new hardware(but cant find drivers kuz well its a old hdd and i cant get um online either)
Posted by: TheeMon
anyone?

Did you check the jumpers on the back of the drive? Are they on seperate IDE slots?
Posted by: TheeMon
same ide cable... im 95% sure the jumpers are correct... 1st hdd it doesnt have a diagram but it said master/single jumpers on(and since noone ever touched them im assuming its set right)
on the 2nd hdd im 100% positive kuz it has a diagram but on the back and i followed it...

Do the hard drives work seperately? In other words, if you take out the first HD and put the second one on the first IDE and boot up, does it work?
Posted by: TheeMon
yeah, they were both in computers before this...for the 2hdd it keeps saying new device found BUT i cant find western digital on the list of hdds and it cant find it automatically
Posted by: Airdawg10
Did you look up the model number on western digital's website? If you don't have the CD that came with it, you can probably find the drivers on the website. The model numebr should be listes on the HD itself
Posted by: TheeMon
uhh yeah i did, i checked WDs site and driversguide.com neither had the drivers...
see my problem? everything i could think of doing didnt work
Posted by: Bix VT
IDE hdds don't need drivers, usually.
how old is it? size? what OS?
Posted by: TheeMon
yeah bix thats what i thought too...
its from 2000(atleast thats whats written in marker on the hdd) its 7gig and windows 95 from western digital model number wd75da-00awa1

if it picks it up in the bios, try formatting it before you boot up windows.
Posted by: TheeMon
how do i do that if it cant reconize it? +++ i thought hdds rarely needed formatted when installin on a new machine
