Hi guys,
Since about a week, when I go to bed 10-15 minutes later, my hard drive starts working l ike hell, I hear it working so I go see wtf is happening, and the HDD led is on 100% no flash so I move the mouse to get onto the screen no programs are there, and the hard drive stops...
I almost have the impression there is hacker intrusion on my computer, I hope not becaus I have a firewall router, and I clean all spyware out daily, so what could cause my hard drive to work when I'm not using it for a while??
THaNks
Confused....

it could be malware, of course. more likely, theres a scan running thats set to go only when there is no activity. just disconnect from online when you go to bed and let the damn thing run, if it does so. then check all your programs that scan and see which one it was.

screen saver or indexing service

it's not a screen saver because my screen saver is a black screen, what is indexing service? I took off hard drive indexing if that's what you mean,
There's also another thing that I've noticed I also have a very long wait before I got onto my inbox in hotmail, it shouldn't take that long on a 1.6ghz Athlon XP and high speed internet
Thanks

GeForce_4_,
Well, you have all the latest patches and spyware/anti virus softeware running... Sounds like you might have the hibernate feature enabled? Maybe something like Norton or McAffee running, that is going a quick scandisk, defrag or antivirus software.
Slow opening email? You are using the latest version of Firefox web browswer right? If you are using Internet Explorer you might want to seriously get the latest updates to a couple anti-virus and spyware removal software.

Ya well that's the problem, I would want to use only firefox but I can't it always automatically opens internet explorer on hotmail(msn messenger)
and so I cannot get rid of my OS needing IE everywhere???

nope. its built in nicely. pretty rare aside from ms programs that anything will call it though.
