Computer won't start

Hi!
I've encountered a really annoying problem, or actually it's two problems although the second one sort of renders the first one obsolete...

I bought a new mobo (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe) and everything started up fine until it reached the XP startup screen. Then it bluescreened and gave me a 0x0000008 (or something) error. first problem.
So I put in the XP installdisk and went in to the recovery console. I didn't know what to do to fix the problem but I thought that "what the heck. The worst thing that could happen would be that I have to reformat C:" when suddenly my computer just died. The only thing I'd done was using FIXMBR. I was just about to start moving important files of the C-drive just in case when it happened.
Now it won't start at all. The only thing that happens is that one of the fans move slightly when I press the powerbutton. The mobo seems to get power as the LED on it is shining when the powercord is in, but it won't start!

I tried using my old mobo but I get the same problem with that... So either it's the CPU or the PSU that's broke I think... And I'm hoping it's the PSU...

Can anyone please help me with this?

Thanks in advance

sounds like a short is a possibility as well. cant tell you which hunk of hardware is the issue until you swap them out or test them.

btw, you need to format when you change the mobo. its exceedingly unlikely you will ever get an old install to boot, although it can happen.

Pull everything including the PSU from the case. Assemble the mobo, memory, CPU, video card, and PSU on the bench. I would do this using the old mobo. If it starts, backup your data files, replace the mobo and do a fresh install of your OS.

If it does not start, swap out the components, one at a time.

Could be the power supply itself, couldn't it?
