Can anybody PLEASE help me?

My husband was recently asked to get a friend's laptop up and going after someone else had tried to "fix" it.

When he plugged it in, and turned it on, the thing started beeping and reading out:
162 - system options not set.

He already tried starting it up while pushing delete, but nope, nothing happened, it just carried on like it had been.

We are stumped!!! Also, is there a site that you can go onto and get the system error codes???

IF the Armada has CD Rom use LINUX like Knoppix, Slax, ... etc i.e a Linux bootable from CD without installation. Well the idea will be to check has thehard driver failed, RAM failed or just OS beem messed up. In professional repair Linux is used to do these tests when notng else boots the system.

I would strungly suspect the fault be either on faulty RAM or hdd.
