Biostar motherboard video problem

I built a system for my sister that uses a BIOSTAR M7VIG Pro motherboard with an AMD Athlon XP2000 CPU and 256MB of RAM. The system has on-board video but I installed an Nvidia GX400 video card so it would play me neice's games better. When the computer boots, all it fine - the trouble is that it sometimes takes up 12 or 15 presses of the reset switch to get it to start and the video to initialize and send a signal to the monitor. I've tried three different video cards - 2 AGP and 1 PCI and have gone through all of the BIOS settings I can think of but the problem still exists. There is no jumper on the MOBO to disable the onboard video.
I've even disabled the on-board video in the Windows device manager. Is there anything I might be missing?
Thanks.

youve hit the obvious ones. disabling the onboard would be the first thing to do.
is the problem solely with the video? does the computer completely boot into windows without a display? try to enable the windows sound if its not already. if this is a boot problem rather than a video problem, its probably some other issue.
