System won't recognize Blank DVD-R

I have been burning DVD's with no problem for a couple of months, but now for some reason my system (windows XP) will not recognize that I have a blank DVD R in either drive (reads it as a blank cd in the burner and does not recognize it at all in the other DVD drive. My burning software (Nero AND DVD Copy) also fail to recognize the blank. I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything many times. Any suggestions?

Are you using a different brand of DVD-R media? Burners can be picky as hell with some types of media. Check for a firmware update for your drives. They may add compatibility to more types of media in a recent firmware update.

Also make sure the drive can use DVD-R. Some are more compatible with DVD+R and vice versa.

Thanks, I will try that but I have been using the same disks from the same box without a problem until now.
