Recently, while playing half life 2, all of a sudden the screen went purple/pinkish and after a couple of seconds the system rebooted. When i got back to the windows user log on screen and tried to log on the screen again went purple with a little green square in the user logo. After a few seconds it rebooted again with the same result as already explained. I went into windows safe mode and tried a restore point without luck. Then i went again into safe mode and removed nvidias latest drivers. After this, I was able to log into windows normal mode, but i tried to reinstall the same drivers and got the same results as above. I again uninstalled the nvidia drivers and called BFG support. The tech there told me to install a prior version of drivers from nvidia to see if they worked. It worked and i was able to play half life 2 for about and hour and a half with no problem. However, I am worried that this problem may happen again and that it is hardware related (i.e. my card has a problem) rather than just a problem of a corrupted driver or something like that. My question is, to those of you that have tech knowledge or experience, does this problem sound like a software (driver) problem or a hardware problem to you? Explanations of your opinions would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like software, were you about to play all games without this pinkish purply thing? I know my video card has a red line sometimes (never in games though) But it doesnt really bother me.

When it was working, everything displayed OK, without a problem in a single game. I just had this problem recently. The big problem was the reboots and that the image was really corrupted.

If bfg tech makes it, and bfg tech does this everyday, and they tell you to use an older driver, use an older driver. I really wouldn't worry about it. If it happens again, upgrade to the then newest version, and hope they fixed it.
