Hi there,
I am running windows 98SE and have a Yamaha DS-XG sound device. I have lost sound to all media files as well as CD audio. Basically sound to everything. I have checked for conflicts and tried my device manager as well and can't find what the problem is at all. I need your help badly. Whatever media device I try, I get pictures but no sound... and yes I have checked my leads as well. HELP ME PLEASE????

Are your speakers tunred on? haha!
Is there anything you did, any program that you installed, any hardware you installed, moved your computer, etc that you did just before the sound went out?

The only thing I was doing was installing Ashampoo media player because my windows media player kept crashing and the pictures were dark. Could overwriting the files to this have caused it?

I'm assuming that sound to your whole system is dead, not just for that player....
I'd first try uninstalling that program and reinstalling WMP, restarting your comp and see if that helps. Also reinstall the drivers for your sound card.
It may be some sort of issue that that player has with your soundcard.... That'd be my first step.
What files were you overwriting that you refered to in that last post? If you're installing a new player, I don't know what files would be overwritten...

Thanks, I'll give it a try. The files were extension files, such as *avi, *mpg, *mp3 etc...
I'll let you know how I get on. For now though, It's my bedtime. Thanks again for your help. See you soon.

Right click on the volume icon in your system tray and select "open volume control". Check that only your microphone is muted, and that the volume on your sliders is set to something higher than the bottom. Sounds obvious (or it doesn't sound, as the case may be =) ) but I've done it myself.
