CPU fan, blowing or sucking away air?

Hi all!
It would be very interesting to hear your opinion about this:
For the moment, I have my CPU fan sucking air from my Thermalright XP 120.
And it works well.
But as I'm always on the search for possible improvements. I begin to wonder if not reversing the CPU fan to blowing instead, would be a good idea?
In my case sidepanel I have a 80 mm fan, that is aimed at the CPU for inlet air.
And if I have my CPU fan blowing at the opposite direction. Would'nt the fans counteract eachother?
Other fans in my case, is 2, 80 mm:s inlet in front of the case and 2 , 80 mm in the rear end of the case + slot fan for outlet.
Any thoughts?

Sucking the air is usually best for good airflow. By pulling the air inside the case over the CPU, any heat is transfered then blown away quite swifly.
In my experiance, sucking air from the front of your PC and blowing out of the rear gets the best airflow, and by sucking the air over the CPU the other fans then push that hot air out of your system.
As for the sidepanel fan, I'm not sure.

heatsinks are sometimes designed to have the airflow going a certain way. assuming you followed the instructions for that, you wont get an improvement by changing the fan around. if there werent any instructions, its usually safe to assume that the cooling wont change significantly with the airflow direction.

For me, pushing the air towards the hsf provides the best cpu cooling, if not the best overall case temps. whenever I change around the fan, the change is only 1C or so, so I don't generally worry about it.

Hi all!
Thank you very much for your thoughts!
But please keep on. It's interesting too see what you think about this?

Most heatsinks are designed to have the air blow toward them. Though I know Alpha used to make HSFs that were designed for blowing away. You might see an improvement if you reverse your fan. If nothing else, you can provide other areas of the motherboard with additional cooling

Hi Taco!
Well, I did as you said out of plain curiousity. And now I've been gaming for 2 hours. The PC, have been running for 8 hours before that. And from what I can see at Mobo monitor 5. I have shaved off 3 C on the CPU temp and 2 C on the mobo, by setting the fan to blowing.
I'ts a small improvement, but still an improvement!

hmm, 3C...but then you have the thermalright, correct?

Hi Bix!
Yepp! I got the XP 120, with a Sunon 92 mm, 54 CFM fan.
But I dont know if it also have anything to do with the 80 mm Vantec Spectrum 39 CFM case fan, that sits almost "face to face" with the Sunon, also blowing inlet air?
It's about 15 cm between them.
By The way, I saw this impressive Sunon 120 mm fan on the net this evening:
Sunon Model: KD1212PMB1-6A
DC Brushless, 2 Ball Bearing
120 x 120 x 38mm 108 CFM, 42 dba, 12V, 0.57 amps, 6.8 watts, 3100 RPM
O.K. its a bit noisy and it's 4 pin connection. But as an alternative to Vantec Tornardo?
