Slow computer

Alright just last night my computer started getting really slow. I've been having internet problems so I tried out People PC's 30 day trial and I think the software they make you install messed up my computer. (I already uninstalled it) I also run FreeRAM XP Pro to monitor my RAM useage and it usually hovers around 320-350 free megabytes of RAM when I don't have anything running and now I'm lucky if it's above 300.

Any help on how to deal with this would be appreciated.

Scan with Ad-Aware and Spybot to check for adware and run your virus scan. Then defrag your harddrive.
See if that helps. Also what kind of internet problems were you having.

I already did that stuff, it was the first stuff I tried.

And I've been getting kicked off the internet alot the last couple weeks. I'm not being disconnected quite as much now but it's still quite annoying.

Try CCLeaner and see if that helps.

Alright, I just used CCleaner and now I'm getting a ton of broken images on websites when I use Firefox.

Ok, I just fixed the problem with images not showing up but my computer is still running pretty slow and something still seems to be using up alot of extra RAM.

Check out what's using up all of your resources (CPU, mem, etc). Just run the Talk Manager. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL and then select Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and see what is hammering your system and look it up to make sure that it's not any type of malware.

Ok, the biggest things are explorer.exe using up around 25 mb, and the different AVG things taking up about 40 mb altogether.

Does the new version of the free AVG use up alot more than 6 did?

probably. it now has 3 separate processes instead of 1. resident avs tend to use a lot of memory anyway.
