remove old hard drive, put in new hard drive. partition and format. then install xp.

If you don't have a startup disk, Pavilion's original hardrives come with a recovery partion. Install the new hard drive as a secondary HD and then hit F-10 whne you boot to access the recovery partion. You can thne install XP on your secondary HD, transfer all your files etc.
Then just remove the first HD and set your secondary to become your primary...
UPDATED:
You can also go to HP's website (hp.com) and for $20, you can get an installation CD mailed to you. This would be the easier way of doing things...
