when clicking my IE, it does not open up a browser. It must be missing a file that I'm not aware of?

you gotta be more detailed about what happens. do you get an error? if so what error do you get. do you have IE installed? try doing windows upgrade and getting IE6.

check if Explorer.exe is running, when u open it, in the background by using Ctrl Alt Del.....if the process is running, but IE window is not opened, it may be due to some Spyware/Adware....
Post the content of HijackThis log file here to analyse.....

also, run this program called CleanUp! once....

I think in Win 98 you can go to > programmes > accessories > system tools > tools. If my memory serves me correctly (he he) there is a tool in there somewhere which gives you the option to repair internet explorer.

My memory was "not quite right" ? The path in Win 98 for the "Internext Explorer Repair Tool" is :
Start > Programmes > Accessories > Sytem Tools > System Information > Tools.
This worked for me once - I hope it fixes your problem.
There is some other interesting stuff in that tool box.

- I don't think it's fair to blame Internet Explorer for your problems. I think the better route would be to try and isolate the cause and correction.

- Spyware and Ad-Ware can be obtained using any web-browser. The fact that the majority of Spyware and Ad-Ware programs out there today attack Internet Explorer and Explorer is simply because they have a market share exceeding 85%.
It's also worth noting that the majority of Spyware and Ad-Ware that attack Internet Explorer are in fact obtained not from Internet Explorer, but P2P sharing programs such as KaZaA, BearShare and LimeWire. Some even distributed via eMail.

- I don't mean to nit-pick (Truth be told, I do!) but both MSN Explorer and AOL's browser have and always have used the underlying components of Internet Explorer.
That is to say, they both use Internet Explorer
