Indiana Jones and the emperors tomb. Stuck in Prague castle

Hi all!
I have come to quite a tricky part in the game in Prague castle, where Indy should jump / swing, from a hook that sits under a cage or platform.
But I can't seem to get enough speed to jump close enough to use the whip on that hook!
Everytime I try, Indy decorates the floor after a loooong fall.
Any advice?
