Remote Access w/ Win2K Adv. Server

Ok here's the pickle for me, I would like to be able to access my computer from other computers not on its network. For example I can access it with the other computer in the same room on the same wireless connection, but I just tried to access it the same way from another house an hour away and couldn't do it. I am just wondering is there a wy to do it, because right now I just want to experiment with Win2K Advanced Server and see what I can learn from/with it. I know there's probably a way to do it, but I just don't know how. I met this guy once and he has a Red Hat Linux mail server and he was able to access it over the net from just his IP, and I realize that was Linux and this is Windows, but they should be both able to do the same thing right?

thanks a bunch

OK that's a kool program, but it's not really what I'm lookin for. When the guy typed his IP into the IE address bar, a page he created showed up and he logged in and looked at his mail. He said he is running a Red Hat Linux mail server at his house. I don't want to control the computer remotely, I want to be able to do what he did, the problem is I only saw him once and briefly so I didn't get a chance to ask him.

sorry I didn't clarify

Then you need to run a mail server. Windows IIS can do that. Here's how to do it in 2003, but it should be the same or at least similar to 2000
