"Please insert play disc error"

The D2 and D2:LOD CD's were working. I had an old 8x Goldstar and added a HP 7570i CD-RW. Diablo still worked. When I upgraded to ver 1.09a I started having problems.

The CD's will autoplay, put after hitting "play game" the disc isn't recognized (No matter which CD drive I use). I'm also using original CD's, not copies.

I reinstalled Diablo. Even the unpatched version doesn't work now.

There is no HP driver update from HP.

Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure there is a bug in the new diablo 2 patch with the cd checking.

My advice is to find a crack so that you don't have to have a cd, but I can't point you to one because we don't support that kind of stuff on this site. You'll have to find it yourself.

Yes, I am not alone with having problems with that patch. I see others having trouble on the D2 board. I have an e-mail string with Blizzard tech support that they last ended with "we can't keep up with all the CD drives out there." It sounded like they were giving up.

I did find a crack site fairly easily. I will not feel bad about using it since I have legitamately purchased D2 and am using the original discs. I hate having to mess with it though.

It may well have been that without all the cracks, Blizzard would not have made this patch (presumably to counteract cracks). But Blizzard's only solution for is that I just can't play any more. :P Vicious circle. Forces people who never would have known about cracks to use them. :P

Thanks, though.

But even with an unpatched reinstall, my CD still won't work. The registry perhaps? I have read about others cleaning the registry to no avail, though.

Yep D2 sucks. Not the game itself but how the game was made.
