I have never pressed a bench.
Although I pushed really hard on a chair once.

I put up 615 the other day. But most days i just do around 575. Seriously though probably like 145-150, I haven't lifted since 9th grade.
Posted by: wordno
550?! 615?! Okay you guys are making my petty 205 look like its....uh petty. I feel bad now.

with a 36 inch waste.
i can max out everything else at the gym though
Posted by: Bobaroo
5'9 160
I max at about 200-205lb
Posted by: FadedMaster
5'9 210lbs and I max out at around 210... free weights of course.
Posted by: wordno
I'm about 5'8 and weight 145, Do you guys take any supplements? I'm taking this stuff called Vaso Xp and the stuff really helps. When I first started taking it about four weeks ago I was at 137LBS and maxed out at 175. The stuff helped me gain weight and move up a lot on the bench press. I also lost a lost about 3% body fat and now I'm down to 5% body fat. It's good stuff and way better than creatine.
Posted by: Superfly3176
No I don't take drugs, my body as chunky as it is, is all natural.
I know a guy who used to take roids and still takes supplements. He weighed 320 before he got on roids now he's down to 215 and is muscular. But when he went to have blood taken they wouldnt accept it because it was that dark.
Posted by: wordno
Well what I'm taking is perfectly legal. Its just stuff that helps you get stronger and more ripped. I wouldn't risk taking roids because I don't want to go bald or grow tits at the expense of getting really strong. Roids has too many lifelong risks for me to even consider taking.
Posted by: Cettie
I used to lift about 175 when I was back in high school a million years ago. But now that I'm an old broad, I can lift a patient at work that goes about 300 pounds of dead weight. Want to arm wrestle?

If you can call it legal. Creatine has been banned in the majors, stuff taste like shyt anyway. In many sports its the same if they find you taking "performance altering drugs". The way i look at it is if you cant do it yourself dont. End rant
Posted by: FadedMaster
Down to 5% body fat? Isn't 12% healthy? *Shrug.* I'm kinda big... haha... And no, I don't take any drugs either. Those type of things shrink yer balls. Haha.
Posted by: redwench
nothing that works worth a crap is legal. creatine only enhances maximal performance slightly, it has not been shown to have any other effect. if it works, its a drug. if its a supplement, it doesnt work ^^
Posted by: wordno
Well Vaso XP is far different than creatine. I'm not sure if you guys ever heard of another supplement called NoX2, Vaso Xp is an upgraded version of NoX2. I don't have to worry about Vaso tasting like crap because they are pills. I know Vaso Xp is a legal supplement that works because I bought it at GNC and I moved up 30lbs on the bench press and gained 7 pounds in 4 weeks. The stuff works wonders, but eventually it will not be as effect as time passes because my body will get use to it.
Posted by: Bobaroo
Creatine adds water to your red blood cells, making you look bigger. It also gives you a lot more energy, but once you are off it you lose everything.
I've started to take Muscle Milk to add mass to me cause i am pretty skinny and I have take creatine for a month on and month off period.
edit: Just because you buy it at GNC doesn't mean that its good for you. You will see a lot of items leave GNC shelves once they get disaproved by the FDA(?).

placebo effects are great, arent they?
Posted by: Ion Silverbolt
Creatine Monohydrate is not a drug and is also not banned in any pro sports. It's a Dietary supplement. You're thinking of androstenedione or ephedra. Creatine is a natural occuring element found in various meat sources. Especially red meat. It's also partly why there are no vegetarian pro bodybuilders.
If you could get banned for testing positive for creatine, then you could never eat meat. Hell the body naturally makes the stuff to a small degree. Hence the off cycles with creatine supplementation so you don't mess up the bodies ability to make its own creatine.

I'm pretty out of shape right now, I just put up 275lbs on the bench, I was doing 345 last year
Posted by: wordno
If you call what I'm taking a placebo then wouldn't Creatine be a placebo? I mean creatine has proven to work for those who take it, it does what it says it puts water in you muscles making you look bigger and making you stronger. What I'm taking says it promotes muscle growth and muscle strength, It did just that. I just hope my pills aren't filled with sugar...
Posted by: Bix VT
chew them and see if they taste good.
Posted by: redwench
lol, for most people, creatine is indeed a placebo. it doesnt promote muscle growth, or make you stronger. water retention isnt what people take it for.......
3 things promote muscle growth and strength:
1. amino acids, in the correct amounts and balance
2. steroids
3. exercise
unless youre a vegan, you get 1 already, and 3 cant be ingested. so i assume youre taking steroids or something that does absolutely nothing.

Work is very good for making muscles.

It's not too hard to increase your bench 30 lbs and gain 7 lbs by yourself w/o supplements. I went from barely being able to do 130 lbs bench to doing 195 lbs in three months during summer break one year (I spent pretty much all day at the gym with a body builder friend of mine). Of course I've stopped working out (2 jobs, full time school) and I probably am back to where I was when I started, or worse (no more manual labor work, all web dev).
Red is 100% right on with her comment on placebos. You're brain is more powerful than any supplement. But if it takes an additional $50 a week to get you to do your best then keep going for it.

I can barely bench the bar, which is about 45 lbs, I weigh 125 lbs.
Posted by: Bobaroo
It is very easy to increase your weight when you start lifting. People take supplemants for when they hit their limit, thats when it gets very hard to increase the weight
Posted by: wordno
I'm still a little skeptical about the whole placebo effect that you guys are talking about. I mean when I first started taking the supplement I was doing 175 on the bench press about five times. Ever since I started taking the supplement I'm doing 185 as my Norm(3 sets of 10). I take it about a half an hour before I start working out and I do Cardio before I start lifting weights. When I get started I'm so pumped and I can do 185 easily. Before I joined the gym and started taking VasoXp(the supplement) I use to work out at home, I have a pretty decent home gym. I use to start my workouts by running around my block to get warmed up. I always felt more tired then pumped after that. I use to do 135 as my norm and it was always was a struggle. I use to use creatine and that crap never worked for me. I use to waste my money on that crap. Why didn't the Placebo effect work when I was taking creatine? So my point is that the VasoXp makes me feel stronger and makes me feel pumped up.

I favoured years of workout over steroids. Yes, as my trainer told me, this steroid stuff work. But it's a double-edged sword, as time inevitably tells.
However I doubt any man would turn down the opportunity to do away with the workouts, and thus without any consequences for his health, IF such an opportunity were to arise http://forum.presence-pc.com/images...abbaipierre.gif

and just what is in this supplement that allegedly works on the level of anabolic steroids? yes, i could look it up, but you should know what the "active" ingredients are.
the literature on placebo effects is quite extensive. if you dont quite understand it, read up
Posted by: wordno
I understand the placebo effect. I'm taking psychology in college this semester. My teacher went over it a few weeks ago. So I have a pretty good understanding on what it is. I never said that VasoXp works like steroids, I've seen what steroids does to people, muscular wise. The stuff I'm taking is a form of another supplement called Nox2. Look up No2 or Nox2 and whatever that does VasoXp is doing. I have a pretty good idea on what Nox2 does, but I'll look it up to make sure.

VasoXp is a Nitric Oxide supplement. Here is some info I found about Nitric Oxide:
NO relaxes the smooth muscle in the walls of the arterioles. At each systole, the endothelial cells that line the blood vessels release a puff of NO. This diffuses into the underlying smooth muscle cells causing them to relax and thus permit the surge of blood to pass through easily.
The erection of the ***** during sexual excitation is mediated by NO released from nerve endings close to the blood vessels of the *****. Relaxation of these vessels causes blood to pool in the blood sinuses producing an erection.
more info at http://users.rcn.com/jkimball.ma.ul...Pages/N/NO.html
It looks like your use of VasoXp is increasing your blood flow providing more oxygen to the rest of your body. This would explain why you feel "pumped" instead of tired after cardio. It's basically giving your entire body an erection.

Sorry, I didn't realize that a certain part of the male anatomy was a swear word.
Posted by: Bobaroo
VasoXP is like NO2? Hmmm, a friend of mine took those pills, I don't see the point.
edit: That stuff also increases masculinity....
Posted by: redwench
its not actually a nitric oxide supplement, nitric oxide is a gas. this is just another amino acide supplement. one should note that anything that has any significant effect on human biochemistry isn't going to just give you the pluses. the process that underlies this stuff is used to treat various cardiac problems and erection dysfunction. do you have either of those conditions? you need to read real literature, not the crap put out by the people trying to sell you this stuff. ideally, you want stuff published in JAMA or other prestigious journals, not bodybuilding mags.

you wouldnt take a drug on a daily basis for months/years without doing research, now would you?

"its not actually a nitric oxide supplement, nitric oxide is a gas."
Actually it doesnt matter if it is a gas in its natural form it can be made into a pill. Peroxide, the type u might have at home in a bottle, is liquid but gas in its natural form minus the water they add to dilute it.

"its not actually a nitric oxide supplement, nitric oxide is a gas. this is just another amino acide supplement."
Two of the three sources you cited directly label the product as a nitric oxide supplement. If this was an amino acid supplement it would actually do something. Amino acids are essential for protien synthesis. Nitric oxide supplements are supposed to increase your blood flow thusly increasing your performance and thereby getting better results faster. But just as your sources say, there has been no proof that this happens. In your last source it even cites a study and says that while you may get an extra rep, or faster sprint it still doesn't significantly increase muscle growth. If there was a difference it was negligible.
A question for the original poster of this tread: have you worked out without using this stuff or any other type of supplement? If I were you I would seriously do so for a month or two. See what kind of results you get then. If the difference in performance and growth are that staggering then go back to your supplements. But I have a feeling that you'll get about the same outcome.
