Worrying Email

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Good afternoon all, (if it's afternoon where you all are).

I received an email today seemingly from myself with a strange attachment on it (which I didn't open!). I hadn't mailed myself anything so I had a look and it was not from my own address but from an AOL version of my address.

The attachment is price_08.zip an application/octet-stream. No way am I touching that!.
My worry is why is someone taking the time to sign up as "me" on another email service just to send me what could be a data miner or other shit?. Any ideas about this or help welcome!.

Thanks guys.

This particular virus is a Bagle (Beagle) variant, W32/Bagle.aq@MM. This email worm propogates itself by disguising itself as an attachment with one of the following names:
price.zip
price2.zip
price_new.zip
price_08.zip
08_price.zip
newprice.zip
new_price.zip
new__price.zip

Delete it, and do an antivirus scan. If you do not have an antivirus. www.avast.com thier home edition is free, and it works well.

Thanks for that Demon, I see using the info you supply that this thing "spoofs" the senders address too, very intereting.

also note that a lot of harmless marketing emails will also put "your" email address as the sender. why they do this is beyond me, since its sure to get that email deleted, but they do.
