D-Link 5 Port Switch

I have 3 Pc's in my house and want them all to share the printer and my cable network.I am running XP home.I ordered a DSS-5+ 5 Port 10/100 Switch.I dont know anything about networking but I think I ordered the wrong thing to do what I want to do.Will this item work for me or do I have to have a Router to go with it,or do I need the Switch at all.Thanks Troubled.......
