Stumbled upon this while researching for an essay

Is this cannibalism?

Jesus H. Tapdancing Christ! Are they crazy? Some sick bugger has a warped sense of humor here, and I hope to God it's just a joke.

Actually, it was pretty common in some cultures (particularly Asian ones, most recently in human history) for the mother to eat the placenta after giving birth. Just about every non-human mammal does it -- humans just cook and prepare it first. High in protein, full of nutrients to restore strength after the strain of carrying the child and giving birth, prepares the mother's body to begin nursing the child. It's seriously not weird, biologically speaking.
That said, it really freaking grosses me out.

Saw something about that on TV once. Some woman not only ate her placenta, but prepared it in such a way, and invited her friends over to share in the experience with her.

that is so sick

Lots of fathers cut the umbilical cord with their teeth.

some families in scotland prepare it also. great nutrition for the mommy.
there are some impulses that dont get drowned out by society. i knew a kid who chewed on his blackheads in class. i knew a guy who ate the pus from his appendectomy. i know a chick who had her husband give her head during pregnancy. the mucous plug came out in his mouth.
i bite my nails and suck blood out of a cut on my finger.
i sucked the snot out of one of my friend's baby's nose.
doesnt bother me.

I think I heard about that for the first time last on some FOX reality TV show, pretty sick stuff, placenta eating is.
Posted by: Bix VT
that is just nasty. even if you did cook it first I have no idea how you could eat it without wretching your guts out.

raw meat and cold blood taste good.
i assume it tastes like that, only better.

Seriously man, a placenta with a heavy dousing of A1 should make a delightful meal for any couple, I dunno what you are all bi***ing about.
Posted by: Bix VT
sure, maybe if I didn't know what I was eating.

Can't be worse than mushrooms!
Posted by: Bix VT
at least with a mushroom I wouldn't be eating a piece of another human being
Posted by: Bishop
That's what they want you to believe.
Posted by: Ocean
the placenta is genetically part of the fetus right?

Yeah, not to mention the fact that it's not really physically possible.

It was mildly disturbing on the first read, but I'm now desensitized to it.
btw shal since this thread is so dead anyways, the Kult is putting together another tour, and I do not intend to miss it.
