Hotmail problem

A friend of mine got his hotmail account hijacked, and this hijacker who we dont know who it is ..
So the hijacker comes on once in a while and I know because the font and picture are different,
So I was wondering if there is a way we can find this person's IP (by soffware) when he talks to me lets say he says HI : can I find some kind of software to see what IP adress is communicating with me?
If not is there a way we can get his acccount back because he's got his secret question and password changed by the 'hijacker'

did it occur to either of you to contact msn and report it as being stolen?

Yes it did, but the goal of this is that we also want to know 'who it is' the question isn't really getting back because he had time to export his contact list before the person changed everything, so he's readapted to a new adress, he just wants to know who did it....
