nvidia problems

I have been having serious problems with my system and I think it all stems from my video card drivers. I am running a nvidia 5900 ultra 256mb ddr on a asus a7n8x dx motherboard, 2gb ram and a 3000+ amd barton processor. My system frequently crashes and gives me a screen that is simply an array of different colored pixels. When I restart the system it tells me that the problem was caused by the nvidia graphics device driver. I have the latest drivers from nvidia and have tried reinstalling them numerous times. I have heard that older drivers might solve the problem but I don't know which version of drivers to get or where to even get them from.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi !

I would suggest, that after removing your videocard driver.
You should use NVclean, to get rid of the old scraps and pieces of old video drivers.
This cleaner, should be used in Windows "Safe Mode", to work at it's best.

And when you are looking for an older driver, look at the numbers that are lower than 71.90, wich is the latest one.
Avoid 66.93 though, as it whas'nt any good.

The drivers before that one whas O.K.

66.71, is one suggestion. or slightly older than that: 62.20

Another thing you can try is a modified driver from V.studios or OMEGA.
I never use the orginal Nvidia drivers anymore.
You get better performance and better picture quality out of those drivers.

For the moment, I'm using a V. Studios Xtreme 75.90, for my FX 5900 XT.
This driver have special addons for the FX & GT cards.

Here is a link to Guru 3D. that got all NVidia orginal and mod. drivers down to the very old Detonator 22.80 + NV cleaner.
Just type "geforce drivers" under "search". Or "modified drivers", if you wanna try one of those?

http://downloads.guru3d.com/search.php

Guru 3D is the best site, for all kinds of videocard drivers, cleaning software, benchmarking and Overclocking. Or any other utility software for Video cards.

I tried getting modified drivers and older ones and it still locks up every now and then. I think I'm going to just do a complete wipe of my system and start from scratch again, it will take a few days to back everything up and reload everything but this is a solution that has worked before for other problems i have had in the past. Thanks for the help but so far I have not had any luck. anyone have any other clues as to what might be causing this??

In my opinion crashing with a corrupted screen is likely overheating of the video card or defective memory on the video card.
Have you checked your temps? Try leaving the case open.

Hello

Well, last time that happened on my computer was when i overclocked the graphics memory to high, or it could be damaged memory, i would take the card back if it is still under warranty, and get it repaired, some companies will either give replacement, or have the retailer sending it to the makers to be repaired, you have to foot the carriage costs though.

Regards

Andrew

About the return thing. If you have bought the Card aftermarket and it's still under warranty, you might want to take it to your vendor. I did so when my card broke, and they not only had a new one for me in two buisness days, but also footed the bills to have the card overnighted both ways. It's worth a shot
