Help New Computer Will Not Even Start

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

OK SO I BOUGHT ALL NEW PIECES TO MAKE MY OWN COMPUTER AND THE DAMN THING DOESNT WORK. I TRIED CHECKING THE POWER SUPPLY THAT CAME WITH THE CASE AND IT WORKED BUT SENT IT BACK FOR A NEW ONE JUST IN CASE IT WAS THE CASE AND THE POWER SUPPLY ON IT ALSO WORKED SO I SENT BACK THE CPU AND MOTHERBOARD TO GET A NEW ONE INCASE THAT WAS THE PROBLEM AND AGAIN NOTHING

I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHAT COULD BE WRONG.
ALL THE CABLES ARE CONNECTED CORRECTLY AND THERE ARE NO BAD PIECES IN THE COMPUTER. WHEN I PLUG IN THE POWER TESTER THE FAN AND THE LEDS LIGHT UP BUT WITHOUT IT NOTHING!

ITS ODVIOUS THAT THERE IS POWER CONNECTING TO THE MOTHERBOARD FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BECAUSE THE LIGHTS DO THE FLICKERING THING WHEN YOU PLUG IT IN
IN MY HOUSE THE SAME AS THEY DO WHEN I PLUG ANYTHING IN

MY QUESTION IS CAN ANYONE THINK OF ANYTHING SPACIFICALLY THAT CAN BE CAUSING THE COMPUTER NOT TO TURN ON. THE MOTHER BOARD IS NOT TOUCHING METAL AND HAS ITS PROPOR SPACERS. THE POWERSUPPLY WORKS THE CORDS ARE PLACED CORRECTLY YET I GET NO POWER SUPPLY TO MY COMPUTER. ANY HELP IS GREATLY APEPRCAITED THE ONLY THING I CAN FIGURE IS THAT THE MANUFACTUER MISLABELED A POWER CORD?

BTW THE SPECS ARE

Diablo ATX Mid-Tower Case with 450Watt Power Supply\
AMD Sempron 3000+ / 512K Cache / 333MHz FSB / Socket A / Processor

Does both your PSU and mobo have 24 pin connector?

Posted by: popstardj3

i believe so they both connect together perfectly so i assume so

Posted by: goranpaa

Just to make sure, take a look, so you dont have 24 on the PSU and 20 on the mobo for ex?

Posted by: popstardj3

how do i detect the difference

Posted by: goranpaa

I think, that the 20 pin have 4 blinds.

Another simple step, but sometimes forgotten. Make sure the cmos jumper is not set to the clear position. Some vendors ship boards in this position.

I also would like to add, that a faulty RAM stick can cause this.
Take 1 by 1 out and try powering up.

Are you 100 % sure that your CPU is seated correctly?

If you discover that you have 20 / 24 pin setup, there are adapters to get.
Not sure how good such an adapter is though.

,lomg i feel like such a moron i swear i checked all teh settings 200 times but apperntly the cmos needed to be moved back to default thank you so much if you were here id kiss your face off you just made my week
now to setup the bios crosses fingers

Great! No kisses needed! I'm just glad I could help you out.

well i really apperciate it its been a week of annoyence and alot of money sending things back to the manufacturer lol

Posted by: goranpaa

Yes, I can well understand the annoyance and the loss of money is'nt funny!!!
But the old Saying " It's from the misstakes we learn", is often all too true.

I have done some really "Fine misstakes" with my PC and Windows!
Among them, beeing stupid enough to forget to remove myself from antistatic electrisity before touching any hardware. Wich did cost me a toasted RAM stick! YAY!!!

I have no idea what you are talking about...i should go learn more about hardware

FYI in future. I'm studying for my A+ certification. If there is one thing I have learned is this: 90% of the time the solution is simple and due to human error. A computer is the stupidest thing on earth, it's just really FAST!
