Sound woes...

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I'm a bit confused here by the User Guide. On page 4-23 it says:

[Auto] allows the BIOS to detect whether you are using any audio device. If an audio device is detected, the onboard audio controller is enabled; if no audio device is detected, the controller is diasbled. Configuration options: [Disabled] [Enabled]
1.) [Auto] is not an option in my BIOS
2.) Why would the detection of a device Enable the onboard Audio? Why the heck would I want onboard Audio enabled if I have a Sound Card? Please 'splain.

I have no sound at all. I have enabled the onboard audio and disabled it. No difference at all. The driver version for my Audigy2 is: 5.12.2.444

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of speakers do you got?
Analogue or digital?

Logitech Z5300. 5.1 digital

Have you plugged in the cables for digital sound on the card?
And enabled SPDIF ( Sony / Philips Digital Interface) and the other settings for digital sound in Windows control panel?

I have it connected the same way I had it before I installed the new mobo and CPU. I have the digital cd audio connectoe going from the Audigy to the CD drive (internally). I never have used the SPDIF feature and the sound has always worked fine. I was under the impression that SPDIF was for using your computer as a Home Entertainment System.

I am going to try uninstalling/reinstalling the audigy. When I put in the new mobo, I got the "Found New Hardware" Wizard. Instead of doing a reinstall, I did a repair of the previous installation. That may be part of the problem.

Incidentaly, I did a Diagnostic test from within the Creative Sound Mixer. Everything passed so I don't think it's a hardware/cabling problem. I think there is some sort of conflict with the motherboards onboard audio. I have it disabled now. Still no sound.

Maybe a new BIOS can help?

Posted by: mklangelo

Reinstalling didn't work. I doubt it's bios. Thanks for your replies though.

:-)

PS. I can't do the BIOS today, believe it or not the new floppy drive I put in is busted. I'm too lazy to scavange my little P4 system to yank that one out and put it in the AMD system. LOL

Well, I flashed the BIOS, which I should have done anyway. No help. grrrr

Well, I'm happy to report that I have onboard audio working. For now, that will do. I'll leave well enough alone. Tomorrow I'll try to get the Audigy working.

:-)
