Hi all, long time no post.
i had a board on my shelf for sometime, brand new never opened. Asus A7V133X. So i built a pc with it.
3000XP+
1GB PC2700
Asus 9520 vid card.
Xp Pro
Problem i have is random freezing or shutdown. Temps are not an issue, 45C under full load video processing.
I replaced the PSU to 450w. Found online i need to space the ram apart if using 2 sticks.
Upgraded bios to latest version , ran memtest, and ram is fine
still no joy. any ideas?
thanks

update your BIOS before you do anything else. goto www.asus.com or whatever the asus web page is and download the bios for your board. make sure its YOUR board cause if you download the wrong one then it will fry your board. unzip the file to a floppy disk and then follow the instructions from there...most boards you put the floppy in and hold down ALT+F2 when you are suppose to push delete to get into teh bios setup. after you do this download the latest windows drivers for the board. this should solve your problem. also run windows update cause they have so many updates for mobo drivers. if none of this works you can email me at broknindarkagain@gmail.com and i can help you some more

all drivers, bios updated. it shuts down like the power saving feature is turned on

Where exactly does it shut down, is it random or at a specific instance?

totally random, idle or in use. event viewer has nothing.
i plan on using it to process video...if i can get it to stay running.
is there a utility i can run that can tell me whats happening?
would reseating the heatsink with arctic silver help?

it depends....if its going through teh normal shutdown process then no...if it just turns off like it lost power or something along those lines then it could be a probelm with the heatsync.

i found an article on asus boards. if using 2 sticks of ram for 3 slots, to keep an empty slot bewtween the 2 sticks. this has stopped the shutdown. but if using cpu taxing programs for video editing, the pc freezes.
still not perfect but getting closer.....

Run Sisoft Sandra
it might point out your problem, that is if you can complete a download before a crash.

yeah no worries, this pc i am on is for net only. the other is not connected, stictly for video and graphics editing. thanks i'll try it.
