Network Resets...

I have SBC DSL and they gave me a Speadstream 5100 modem a year ago when I signed up. Recently, every time I'm on AIM and I try to use "Direct Connection" or "Send/Get File" the power light on the DSL modem blinks red, then it resets. I then have to reset my router too (to reset the entire network) before I can get back online. Anyone ever have this problem before? Is this some sort of security feature built into this thing maybe? I've never had this problem before this, I could only think it may be going bad on me...
