Outlook Freezes

WinXP Pro, fully patched.
Office 2003.

User reports this issue occurs sporadically but on a regular basis. User looks at the keyboard while she types and occassionally while composing an email she looks up and find the text she typed did not come out. User indicates the cursor has changed into a "square box with some symbol in it" and she needs to shut down outlook at this point. Now this user has carpal tunnel and wears a brace which interferes with her typing. My best theory here is that while typing, she inadvertently hits some key combo that changes Outlook/Office/Windows into some other mode, similar to how you can change from "insert" to "overwright" mode. Does anyone have any other thoughts on what could account for this issue? Thx in advance!
