Windows Media Player on TV

I'm trying to show my students a video from my computer to my TV set. I have it all hooked up correctly and can show everything on my computer screen except Windows Media files. The player shows up, but the screen is black while the video proceeds to show clearly on my computer screen. Any suggestions?
