Can't load to desktop with XP

I am unable to boot up to desktop with XP. I have a Asus motherboard with a pent 4, 1.7 GHz processor and a western digital 60 gb hard drive and 512 mb ram.

I was recently unable to acess the internet via microsoft programs although I was able to with my online games. After searching for possible problems I read to remove windows service pack 2 which fixed the problem. I then ran a scan disc and locked up trying to delete Norton programs. When the computer tried to reboot there was no hard disc installed. If I turned the computer off and on it would restart normally and be fine, but as soon as I would start to open more than a few windows I would crash and the same thing happen.

I went to western digital and downloaded thier hard drive repair software. I was told I had 84 bad clusters and it would try and fix them. I then downloaded direct x 9.0c and then did a disc defrag and loacked up.

Since that lock up, I have been unable to get to the desktop at all. I have tried repairing windows and even reinstalling windows with no luck at all. It starts to do a hard drive scan and then reboots over and over. I have tried to run a DOS program to take out the sasser and blaster virus ( no idea if I really have either ), and a DOS program to repair the hard drive and I keep getting told I cant access DOS.

Has anyone run accross a fix that might work for me? I am willing to try about anything at this point.

Kynan
