oddly enough, I have that pic stored on my webspace as well...
I think I may just have to invest in a second A64 platform

it seems people are confusing the Off Topic and Hardware forums....
I'm probably going to sell my crappy Winchester and get a Venice after the price gouging goes down (it happened to the Winchester, and it'll happen now).

I dunno what everyone is raving about, its a new core sure its a little better, thats why they make new cores. I dont see how its OCing performance is anything incredible either, I remember seeing 500MHz celerons hitting over 1GHz on straght watercooling. I took my 2500+ barton and OC'd it almost 40% out of the box on air, now that is impressive to me. Naturally, this is a preemptive test and when they hit retail, I'm sure I'll see some cool OC's when browsing the 3Dmark ORB, but I'm not crapping my pants in anticipation.

the greatness about it is the great improvement over the older cores. my Newcastle, for example, won't boot at over 2.5 no matter what I do, and won't run stable over 2.4. it all depends on what you're comparing it to I suppose.

probably the biggest thing is the rumored improved memory controller. Maybe with the Venice, people can actually run four sticks of ram at a resonable speed. It might even increase memory bandwidth a little for people with two sticks.
The overclock on this chip is phenomenal, especially compared to the recent (week 50, 2004 and on) abysmal Winchester CPUs. Of course, we need to see how the lower end chips like the 3000+ or 3200+ overclock before most people start to care enough to buy.
