FTP Server Troubles

I'm trying to run a FTP server on my computer. Of course at port 21. Now, I'm almost positive that the problem is not my firewall, as disabling it doesn't solve my problem. My problem: No one can connect as it times out. I'm using InstantServer MiniPortal to set up my FTP server. And I'm using BlackICE PC Protection as a firewall. I even uninstalled it to see if that would fix it, and it didn't. Any suggestions? Possibly a different program? Oh yea, I can connect to the FTP server, only from the computer hosting it. Haha.
Thanks.

I think there is two things to look at. Are you behind a router? Did you assign a static IP address on the FTP server?

No, I'm not behind a router. And yes, I have an unchanging IP (can't remember if that's static or not..) Haha. But, yes, my IP is always the same.

yes, that's what static would mean

Well, my problem still persists. Could it be that Charter does not allow doing this? It works for hosting an Apache server on my computer. I just can't host the FTP with it.

I got it to work, after some hard work, and a friend helping me. She was my test subject. Haha. So I downloaded Serv-U instead. And with that I could change the FTP port. I changed it to 86, and then I lowered the setting on BlackICE and got it to eventually allow the FTP.

yeah, it might have also been your ISP blocking incoming port 21, because they don't want you running a FTP server.

Probably. *Shrug.* Not like I'm using it for illegal purposes. I'm just using it to share music that I myself have written. I goof around with guitar a bit.

i know, but your ISP doesn't..

Oh well, if they get rid of me, they get rid of me. I hate Charter anyways. I only do service with them because they provide my cable (which I can easily go with out). I'm switching to the local DSL service anyways, much faster upload and download, for a lot cheaper.

huh, I find that interesting, because the DSL in our area is actually more expensive than the cable modem I have and is slower, but hey, good for you!
