check to see if the routing information matches the domain registration information.

Hello
If you really want to check to see if that e-mail is valid, then you will have to pay investigations sites that look into this type of unsolicited e-mail for a one of fee of 29.99 dollars, i have got a free e-mail tracing program though, but you will need another operating system, the problem with the internet is that there is money to be made, like with virus, a lot of my friends say that it is the virus scanning company that employ people to create this viruses, so that the virus scanner can stay in business, same goes for spyware as well, a few years ago they used to be loads of free sites that let you check to see if that e-mail account was active.

as far as I can tell it traces to 67.15.76.168 and 01.com resolves to the same address. But it could be just a spoofed address
this is the first time I've use the email tracing feature of cPanel, so I don't know it that helps or not. It's probably better to check the headers of the email to see where it came from

oops, i meant the routing information in the header.

go to www.dnsstuff.com -> E-mail Test (bottom middle)

all that will tell anyone is that the domain exists and where its located, not whether an email came from it.

Hello
Well, if you have the ip address then that makes it easier, go to the following website to trace the ip address

Thanks redwnch, I thought it told you if the e-mail address worked. just a question, because I'm not sure... Could you find the IP address that it was sent from and then do a whois for that IP address and/or see if that is the IP address of the mail server? The only problem is that many people use different SMTP servers and this doesn't really tell you if the address exists or not...

if theres an ip listed in the header, sure. but its usually fairly easy to spot emails with false return addresses, since the routing information doesnt match.
