Is the end near for EverQuest?

EverQuest has begun to merge many of their servers, due to the low population of each server. The EverQuest community has taken a blow lately from the large number of players leaving to World of Warcraft.
EverQuest is approaching it's 7th year, which I believe is a pretty good run for an online game. It's too early to say goodbye yet, but it does make me shed a tear remembering all the good times and what a fantastic game EQ was in its prime. Link to Sony here

Beginning April 11th and continuing until the completion of the process, we will continue merging all standard rule-set servers. The servers will be merged in the following order, on the dates listed.

WoW gets old in the level 50's. I have no desire to log on to that game anymore until they fix pvp honor system and add in battlegrounds. But the #1 thing I want in WoW now is level 50+ SOLO-ABLE QUESTS.
That's why I recently re subscribed to EQ, with my guild being dormant the past few months I had lost interest previously. But now that Xeg, Corinav, Earth Arbitor and FR are dead within 2 weeks of each other (leaving only Rathe Council for Time access,) we've finally seem to gained the momentum we lost during Christmas. It's just gonna be a bitch catching up to the top guild clerics again because of ANOTHER new expansion and my equipment is from an older era. evercamp indeed.
We'll see how long this time my EQ stint lasts.
