Trying to open some ports on a router.

Ok, I just got a new modem (with built in router) installed and I can't figure out how to open the ports at all. I can get to the device interface with the IP, look through all the commands, log in and all that, but I have no irkly idea how to open any ports.
The modem I'm using is...
AMBIT DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem
If you need more info, just ask, but I don't think I should give out my IP or MAC address.
