CD-ROM drive not visible, not working

I have 2 CD-ROM drives (E and F). They used to work fine. When I run the BIOS, they are both there. I use Windows XP, with SP2. When I go to Hardware/DeviceManager, they are both listed as "working properly". However, if I use Windows explorer, trying to read the contents of E gives me an error: "E\ is not accessibe, incorrect function". If I try to access drive F, it simply tells me that the CD is empty.

Any thoughts?

You could try uninstall the ROM in Device manager and reboot.
Then Windows will find a "new ROM" installed.

Or you could try downloading a Registry repair software.

Just be aware, that there are no such freewares. So You have to repair 15 faults and then scan again.

Try this Microsft knowledge Base Link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q270008/

Hope this helps.
