WIFI b/g won't stay connected to 1 network

Though I have a good to excellent wifi router signal, my b/g wifi won't stay connected to my network (see attached JPEGs). Neighbors installed new wifi connections in the last week (two of them!) within signal range and my system keeps wanting me to pick every 2 to 5 minutes and won't connect to either without intervention. I get "One or more wireless networks are available" balloon and I find myself disconnected and my VPN dropped. I've been up and running, connecting with the router persistently, for over 2 years. Is there any way to tell the Window XP SP1 wireless configuration to ignore other configurations and to only connect to my router even if the signal is not the strongest? Suggestions?
Hardware: Built-in DELL MiniPCI Truemobile 1300
Router: Dlink Xtreme G, firmware 2.28
System: XP SP1 (otherwise upto date with service)
Connection: SSID visible, mac-restriction, IP-restriction, 128bit WEP, shared, channel 6
Update: I stop and disable Windows Zero Configuration service in system services after connecting my router, which keeps me connected to the right SSID until I hibernate that machine. I have start the service each time I bring the laptop out of hibernation and connect at that time. This cannot be the correct way to do it!? I can find no setting, even in the advanced tab to stop Windows from trying to find a stronger signal and change it it. Than you MS!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Antti2004,
Thank you for your post. The symptom is similar, but the article does not describe my problem. My problem is basically interference from other APs. When their signal becomes relatively stronger than mine, the wifi decides to switch instead of staying connected. When it does that, it gives me a choice of my network or the neighbors' networks to which I am not even configured to connect. I have WEP set up and they do not. I'm not even getting the warning that they're not protected. Odd. I've temporarily solved it by stopping the Wireless Zero Configuration service, the culprit, after I connect to my AP. I then stay connected until I hibernate the computer.
Any other ideas?

sfwrtr,
Hi there. I have an idea that may solve your problem. On your taskbar at the bottom of your screen, right click on your wireless connection and go to 'View Available Wireless Networks'. That should open a GUI box. At the bottom left hand corner of the box, there will be an option called 'Advanced'. Click that. That should open another GUI box called 'Wireless Network Connection Properties'. On the second half of that GUI box, there will be a section labeled 'Preferred Networks'. There it should list a variety of Wireless Networks that you have connected to in the lifetime of your computer. From there you can set the priority of the wireless networks. Select the network you would like to stay on primarily and move it to the top of the list. Move the rest below it. That should make it so your computer connects to the highest priority connection first every time.
If this solution does not work, be sure to come back.
