Anime / Animemovies

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I know this was asked once before... a long time ago... But anyway do you know any good anime or anime movies?

The only good ones I remember were Gundam Wings and Z.O.E.

Posted by: Bix VT

Naruto is a pretty good series. the one in the original japanese with subtitles, not the lame new cartoon network dubbed one

Posted by: Canis Lupus

based on your current likes, I'm guessing you like mecha anime...

some suggestions based on your current likes:

evangelion
rahxephon
original macross saga (not the robotech-edited ones)
sakura wars
dual! parallel
and some of the other numerous Gundam franchises out there

if you like another genre of anime other than mecha, let us know and we'll give you suggestions for those too

p.s. escaflowne can be considered mecha anime too, at least for the action scenes...

Posted by: gam3r

I just watch whatever is on adultswim.

Well I can sorta remember this old Street fighter anime that was kinda fun

But anyway some of the named anime look very cool with some good stories (Thank you google ) So thanks

Ghost In The Shell... then watch The Matrix after and spot the similarities.... Animatrix had its good parts too.

Also I hear the proper uncut versions of Dragonball Z (not the kiddie version made to compete with pokemon et al) is pretty good and very dark.

hehe, shounen then

Some more suggestions on that line (most of these are kinda in a long series, like DBZ):

Naruto
Yu Yu Hakusho
Rurouni Kenshin
s-CRY-ed

Specifically, just about the only anime show I like is Cowboy Bebop. Full Metal Alchemist is allright, too, but I don't really like anything that goes beyond reality.

Posted by: Canis Lupus

would be pretty hard to find any anime that stays "within" reality, except maybe some of the works of Studio Ghibli ...

Posted by: Muggle_Man

Escaflowne is probably my fav. anime, I like tank police too, and hack sign is pretty cool.

So how is Cowboy Bebop real?

Oh God, this might start controversy...

Well, you see, I can see something like Cowboy Bebop happening later on. Meanwhile stuff like Dragonball Z and Full Metal Alchemist is harder to imagine.

Bubble Gum Crisis is another I'd have to say I like.

Posted by: taco_fox

Cowboy Bebop creates a pretty believable vision of the future if you like to notice that sort of thing. They don't have too many 'magical' devices like artificial gravity or non-assisted hyperspace travel. The whole series is filled with those kind of things that I think make the show more enjoyable because it's more realistic.

Posted by: Bishop

I agree, even though I don't care about that stuff, it still is there.

Other lesser and some more known titles for possible review:

angel sanctuary
inuyasha
paranoia agent
fruits basket
eh there's a bunch more but I' fairly tired so they'll have to wait

Posted by: Canis Lupus

Fruits Basket is great, highly recommended ... if you don't mind the "reverse harem" kind of thing

or the fact that there are at least 3 crossdressers in that thing, haha ....

Posted by: AK47

Samurai Champloo is pretty badass... ditto with Noir.

Only anime I know is what my brother sends my way. So far, it's been pretty good stuff.

Posted by: Hambones

One must not forget the classics:

Ninja Scroll
Vampire Hunter D
Record of Loddoss War
Berserk
Bastard

Posted by: Erekose

ah, Vampire Hunter D

but damnit, hambones, i just got that piano solo from RoLW out of me head yesterday...

ah well

Posted by: Outcesticide

NG Evangelion: series and movie
Hellsing
Fruits Basket (in my opinion best comedy )
Samurai X
Vampire D ( great/epic but if against Arucard in a battle, Arucard)
Record of Lodoss War (Also great RPG)
Pet Shop of Horrors

Posted by: Spriggan_43

AKIRA, Ghost in a Shell, TRIGUN, Ninja Scroll, Spirited Away, Spriggan , Vampire hunter d, blood the last vampire, x, street fighter, and the DBZ movies 1-12 then the GT movies

My favorite movie is AKIRA it kicks

theyve almost all been already mentioned but:

BESERK: angry dude roams around a kind of 'post apocalyptic medievil' land killing badguys in very very bloody and very very angry. gory classic.

Fist of the North Star: is kind of similar to beserk except the main guy isnt quite as angry and theres a bit more plot. still plenty if not more blood guts and crazy deaths. added bonus of special moves with ludicrous names. My favorite anime of all time.

Samurai Champloo: 2 samurai and a little girl go on an adventure around japan albeit rather involuntary companions. lots of plot, great characters that go from strength to strength, great action.

Full Metal Achemist: magic and demons. lots of action and dumb plot, the main characters are a couple of brothers one of whom is a hardcore alchemist (in this instance alchemy claims to me the transformation of any matter following some rather vague rules) and a bunch of military police kind of people, some good guys some bad. easy viewing.

Hellsing: the hellsing organisation, protecting the uk from demons and vampires etc. Main characters Alucard (seriously) a kind of hardcore good guy vampire and a woosy police girl who he bites and teams up with. Great action, good plot, and though i still dont believe it the leader of the hellsing organisation is aparently female. short series too so easy to get into.

Elfen Leid: fit chicks with telekenetic and various other mind powers. the main one is an escapee and is the main character along with two totally moronic normals. some quite heavy sexual innuendo in this one, and the plot is really really dumb but the action and the humour are both pretty good.

Club-to-death Angel: crazy angel comes down to earth to kill boy who in the future will accidently invent a device that keeps all women looking like school girls. Problem is she decides she really likes him. so she repeatedly kils him them brings him back to life. a lot. short series as the makers, like the audience had no clue where this ultimately silly series was going. all episodes are very short however, you can watch the lot in a couple of hours.

there are loads more watchable ones depending on your taste, having had the chance to review anime dvds in a past life I've had to watch dozens....

Bleach - A good series that is probably going to be the next DBZ in America. It's currently unliscenced in the US. It's your basic super-power-up and special-attack type of story.http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=4240

Full Metal Panic & Full Metal Panic TSR - Some mecha action goodness with a dash of comedy thrown in. A good way to pass lazy weekends. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...nime.php?id=844 http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=4449

Sousei no Aquarion - A shounen super-mecha anime that has great CGI animation, and a pretty cool story. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=4796

Blood+ - A series based on Blood the Last Vampire that is kind of slow, but has potential. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=5088

Samurai 7 - This is possibly one of the best anime series ever made. It's based on Kurasowa's famous movie The Seven Samurai. It's a must see mecha/action series. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=3127

Mushishi - This is not an action/adventure series by any stretch of the imagination. It's set in historical Japan, and follows a Mushishi (mushi hunter) as he travels. It's animation is Miyazaki-esque. What's a mushi? Watch and find out. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=5923

Monster - Another non-action series with a great story line. This is a psychological thriller/horror series about a doctor who gets accused of a murder he doesn't commit. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=3750

GANTZ - This series defies any attempt by me to describe it. It's got blood, boobs, aliens, blood, guns, guts, blood, and a ****ed up plot. I had wierd dreams for the 2 days it took for me to marathon the series. Not for kids. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=3641

Kyou Kara Maou - It's a shounen-ai fantasy/comedy. If you don't know what shounen-ai is, ask Bishop. I have no clue why I get a kick out of this series, but I have laughed in almost every episode. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/enc...ime.php?id=3741

All my movie suggestions have been posted already.

Well, to be exact it was my second post. Probably like everyone here they came here for some tech support but I do like anime so I couldnt help but post what I posted.

Posted by: Bishop

oh, just ignore theemon. His life here has been one of unending ridicule so he tries to get back at people who he has no way of harming by insulting random people.

Also, anything by kaori yuki is pure love, although most of that is still purely manga based.

Gokudo is another excellent series. It perfectly parodies several video games and other anime/manga content while holding up a well rounded plot supported by a healthy dose of sexual perversity without resorting to your standard nudity/tentacle rape combination.

Not that there is anything wrong at all with tentacles.
