problem with AMD processor

I'm using an AMD K6-2 500MHZ with a nVIDIA Geforce 2 PRO, along with a DSL, and also with 256 MB RAM. But the thing is that Diablo II doesn't run smoothly. Not like it should i mean. There is lag, but i'm playing a single player game, what da heck! Please help me out, i've tried everything except reformatting, but i doubt that it would work. Thanks in advance.

The best way to make it run better is to free up all the resources you can. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and only leave systray, explorer, point32 if you have it, and rnaapp if it's in the list for DSL.

btw..NVidia cards in general run poorly with Diablo 2. It's a Blizzard problem and not a video card or processor issue. D2 even chugged on my 750Mhz system with a Geforce 3. It actaully ran faster on my K6-3 450Mhz system than my Athlon 750Mhz just because it had a MAtrox G400Max instead of an NVidia card in the system.

You might also get better performance running the game in directDraw instead of Direct3D.

Make sure that your HDD space isn't low. I had Diablo 2 running on a Quantum Bigfoot 8.4 gb and it lagged like hell with a Voodoo 3 on my Pentium 3 450mhz and I coudln't figure out why until I thought that maybe it's the HDD being to slow and old for the game. Well, I got my maxtor HDD and goodbye "lag". It was that on-the-fly cacheing system afterall. Ion is probably right on the nVidia idea, but I'm just giving another idea on a probable cause of your problem. It may be your hard drive being to slow for the games loading system. I've had the problem before, and you might have the same problem. I can't be sure. I hope you can fix the problem, good luck.

Jaymeze: Don't play in 3d mode. Even with my athlon 1400 and a geforce 3, 512 megs ram, 7200rpm harddrive, etc, D2 runs slow for me in 3d mode. It just doesn't work properly with nvidia cards. Switch to 2D and the game will be fast.
