I have a file server with linux where I have to login to use the server for staff and public. I also Have computers running windows 2000 pro. I would like to ask is there a way that I can get windows to remeber the password for the staff or public parts of the file server and I can use a different password for logging into windows. I want windows to remeber the password depending on how I log in as public for the public side and as staff for the staff side of the server.
I am newbie so if that does not make sense please ask more questions to help me figure it out.

for something like that, you need somecalled active directory. Instead of having the server run linux it would run MS Server 2000. There are also ways to do this with samba, but it is very difficult.

Samba is exectly what is running the file server. Do I need access the file server to do what I want to do?

sort of, but you need to authenticate to something from the file server. I'd ask at www.linuxquestions.org
