Hi, hope someone can help, I was having problems with my pc hanging, thought it may have been a virus so I installed Norton anti virus and McAfee, now my pc wont open at all, it says windows (xp) was prevented from opening to protect my harddrive. Is there any way I can uninstall these programms from the setup menu???? help

Try to remove them. by booting your PC in Safe mode.

This is how you do it.

Tap the F8 key, just after the first boot screen.
Then you will see a menu with several Safe Mode options.

The one you should use, just say "Safe mode".

Then go to control panel + Add / Remove programs, and uninstall Norton and Mc Affe.

And Reboot.

P.s. Download AVG anti virus free + Zone Alarm, free (Firewall) instead.

Thanks Goranpaa but I've tried to open in safe mode but it comes up with the same error msg, a mate has just said to try another key during boot up ie, f5 and this could let me boot up with a lot of restrictions??? any ideas...

that should work, probably by enabling you to do a restore.

dont install 2 avs at once.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
I changed the bios to Autodetect ATA and this enabled me to get to the repair page:-
to INSTALL WINDOWS XP press ENTER
to REPAIR WINDOWS XP press R
ETC
I pressed R and got to the Admin password bit, entered my password 3 times and got bombed out, (should've just got bombed). So I reformatted, mostly OK but there are some drivers missing:-
Ethernet controller
Multimedia Audio controller
PCI Modem
SM BUS controller
Unknown Device
Video controller
Video controller (VGA compatible)
I've tried all my disks that came with my PC to no avail
is there some way I can do config all drivers???

The only way to get the drivers. Is to find out wich manufacturers and models those stuff are in the Device manager. And then download them from the manufacturers home.

Or you can try this: http://www.driverguidetoolkit.com/
