Things only work on my PC?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Rsenick

OS: Win XP Pro
Processor: P4 2.8
RAM: 512 DDR400
Graphics Card: FX5200

Problem Description:

Everything on my system appears to work just fine. I have a virus scanner (Norton 2005) and this hasnt detected anything.

The problem is that many things I copy to someones flash drive or write to DVD seems to always have errors when they try to open it.
This has never happened before and I am quite puzzled.

Any thoughts?

I to be honest, I have never heard of this before.

But as you seem to suspect, that you may have been infected, as you mention your Norton.
You can, always try some on line virus scans, just as a safety precausion?

This is always a good thing to do if you suspect or know that your PC is infected. No Antivirus is 100%

Also try a registry repair software. Unfortunatly, there is only trial wares to download, with limeted amounts of repairs per scan. So you have to scan, repair 15. Then scan again, repair 15 etc.

Another thing, you can try as a last resort, is to do a repair installation of your windows.

This is how you do this:

First uninstall Service pac 2 and your Video card driver, if the driver is'nt WHQL sertified. (This to avoid problems when repairing Windows).

The load your XP CD and reboot.

The first time you will be asked, if you want to repair, or install a new Windows? Choose a new installation. Next time you get this question to repair, by pressing the "R" key. Choose repair.

When the repair is done. You will find, that everything is as you left it. And the only thing you have to do is to reinstall your SP2 and the video card driver.
