Ok, here it goes.......
Recently, my 'puter crashed while my son was playing a game. On the bottom of a 'blue' screen I wrote this down before the mem dump ended;
Stop: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0xF2259500, 0xF03BDC84, 0x00000000)
SGuard.sys - Address F2259500 base at F2258000, Date Stamp 4lf0b39f
Most of my .dll's were corrupt 'cause all of my windows programs would not function properly or not at all. REFORMAT HARD DRIVE NUMBER 1........
Re-installed WinXP no problems (using my Lite-On DVD+-RW 16X). Updated all Critical Updates, drivers for internal hardware, etc.. Re-installed Sims 2 Special DVD Edition, no problems ........................ until time to play the game. "Please insert the correct DVD-ROM, press OK and restart the application" ???? This is a first for me.
Purchased Sims 2 DVD Special Edition when it first came out and it had played perfectly before using the Lite-On drive and my other DVD-ROM, both just fine. Now both will NOT recignize the disk after multiple installs from both drives (install then un-installed game several times). REFORMAT HARD DRIVE NUMBER 2...........
Go through the same updating to current drivers, updates, Sims2.......SAME PROBLEM.
Okay, I install my game Brothers In Arms:Road to Hill 30.......installs without a single problem, automatically reads the disks, asks where to install.....etc., etc., etc.. Time to play the game "Please insert the correct..........................." ????? Getting quite upset now. REFORMAT HARD DRIVE NUMBER 3..........
Same process.............decide to go to Lite-On web site, flash install current driver even though my DVD+-RW already had the current one. Hardware Manager lists both optical drives in working order, no conflicts. STILL WILL NOT PLAY GAMES........
How can both drives foul up at the same time but still be in perfect working order (install programs, drivers, etc.) but not able to play from the disks. I do not own any pirated copies or 'no cd-keys' programs, everything is legit, up-to-date and/or current.
Went to Major Geeks web site and d/l'd some free hardware/system tools and my optical drives show up in working order as well.
HELP ! ! ! ! ! ! please.

Never mind.......I fixed the problem.
After reading multiple threads from multiple sites I went into:
Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager-IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers-
NVIDIA NForce 2(tm) SPP/IGP ATA Controller (my mobo)-right click-Properties-
click on Secondary Channel-in drop down menu select PIO Mode for Master AND
SLAVE (if you have 2 optical drives) under Select Transfer Mode
Reboot computer and everything works!!!!!!!!!!!!!
