Sound Problemsn

I recently did a System Restore to attempt to fix a problem. When I got back on, I was trying to listen to music, but there was no sound. I went and checked the mute box, and it was muted, but it would not allow me to uncheck the mute box that was checked. Now when I got into sound devices from control panel, all of the options on the first tab that were initially available are now gray and can't be pressed and selected. Also, some of the volume controllers are gone, not quite sure which ones though. Please help.

Silly question maybe? But have you tried reinstall the drivers for the sound card?
Posted by: BigA12989
Not yet, because I'm not sure what site I can find the specific drivers for my sound card on. Where can I find the specific name of my sound card, I think I know but I'm not positive.

Go: START + CONTROL PANEL + SYSTEM + HARDWARE + DEVICE MANAGER + SOUND CARD. then click that. And find out what your cards manufacturer and model is? Then go to the manufacturers home. and download the driver.

IF you happend to have an integrated soundcard. You will have to download the small software CPU Z, and find out what motherboard you got? Then download the driver from the mobos manufaturers home.

I can't seem to find the specific name of it, just SB Audigy, is all that I see.

Thats one of Creatives sound cards.
They have a software auto update, that will recognize your sound card, and download and install the sufficient drivers for you.
But this is only possible if you use Internet Explorer. They dont support other net browsers yet.
http://www.creative.com/support/
Or you can manually download a Soundblaster Audigy driver, from here: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/

"Creative Software AutoUpdate was unable to detect any Creative products attached to your computer." That is the message I get when I AutoUpdate

Then, try this: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/
Your card, is probably a Soundblaster Audigy or Soundblaster Audigy 2.
But to be on the safe side, finding out what card you got? Download SIS Sandra software. and take a look under the " Sound card information ". If this works without any installed drivers?
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System...re-Sandra.shtml
One other thing? Did'nt you get ANY drivers for the card on a CD when purchasing the PC or the sound card?
Posted by: BigA12989
Well before I download it, when I look in the creative folder in Program Files, one of the folders is named SBAudigy2, does that mean it is the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card?

Bulls eye, my friend!

Yah I got the driver CD for it, but when I run the update with it, it says there are no better matches for the driver than the one I have now.
Posted by: goranpaa
So you have installed the drivers now, from the CD? Is the problem still there?
Posted by: BigA12989
Hmm, when I just run the CD it brings up an option for me to install Sound Blaster Audigy, even though its already installed...at least I think so unless it was somehow unistalled.
Posted by: BigA12989
No, when I try and update from the CD, it says it can't continue because no other matches were found that would work better than what I currently have, even though what I have currently doesn't work at all.

It will also give you an option, to do a repair of the driver.
Posted by: goranpaa
Othervice, you can uninstall the previous driver in Control panel, Add / Remove programs or / and in the device manager. Then get a fresh driver, from Creative, or install the one from the CD, after rebooting.
Posted by: BigA12989
Well when I run the update, there is no option to repair, just update, which doesn't work. When I run the CD, it only has the install option. But I do know for a fact that it is SB Audigy 2, so I guess I could try and install the drivers. Which ones would I get?
Posted by: goranpaa
Yes, but uninstall the old driver or the card first and reboot.
Take a look at the picture, I provided. By clicking it.
Posted by: BigA12989
But why can't I just update the drivers using that page?
Posted by: goranpaa
Do you mean the auto update?
I'm not sure. But maybe it's just for an update of the actual driver you got installed? That is if you have a working driver.
Sorry! I forgot to say, that to be able to repair your driver using the CD. You must start the installation first.

Hey it is fixed. This is really weird though. I uninstalled the sound card using device manager and deleted the folder in program files. Then when I restarted, the sound card was already installed and now it works. Thanks for the help man!

Great! Maybe Win XP, have some generic driver for it?, And when you did this, the Windows sound driver went into action?
Just glad to be able to help you!
But NOW, you can try update the driver , by using the Auto update...if you want?
