My mouse randomly turns off

My optical mouse is randomly turning off, it isnt the actual mouse because ive tried numerous mouses on my computer and it all does the same thing. I use the usb port because when the mouse turns off it re-detects it in about 1-3 seconds. If I use the PS2 port it will just turn off and I will have to unplug it and plug it back in for it to work.I am using Windows xp with an an35-ultra shuttle motherboard and a amd 2000+ proccessor.I dont have the power saving function turned on so i know it cant be that, ive tried updater drivers and noting happens. I have even tried reformating windows as a last result but that didnt work, and that made me angry..I play CS and WoW and this problems makes it almost impossible to do anything in both of them. Sometimes it wont happen for hours and sometimes it will have 100 times within an hour.I really need help wth this problem because my mind is boggled on any solution.

If it's corded it could be a short in the cord. It could even be a short in your motherboard. Have you tried a different USB port?
